Sheriff Al Lamberti to Address Pompano Republican Club Jan. 24 at 7:30 PM

Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti will be the guest speaker at a meeting of the Greater Pompano Beach Republican Club on Thursday, Jan. 24, 7:30 pm at Emma Lou Olson Recreation Center, 1801 N.E. 6th St., Pompano Beach.Lamberti, appointed sheriff by Gov.

A registered Republican, Lamberti said he intends to seek the sheriff’s office in next year’s election. A career police officer, he is not involved in local politics. He is now the only Republican Constitutional officer serving in Broward County, a traditional Democratic stronghold.

A 29-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, Lamberti worked his way through the ranks from patrol deputy to major. He served as interim chief of Hollywood from 1998 to 1999 and also as the interim chief for the City of North Lauderdale. He also served as chief of the Deerfield Beach district of the Sheriff’s Office.

Lamberti earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1981 from Florida Atlantic University, where he also attended graduate school for public administration and criminal justice management.

South Florida's Jeff Atwater on Tuesday night won the nod from fellow Senate Republicans as the next Senate president, one of the state's top political jobs and a post that could bring a bounty of riches to his home district.The great-grandson of the governor for whom Broward County is named, Napoleon Bonaparte Broward, Atwater is a North Palm Beach banker whose legislative district stretches along the Atlantic coast from Fort Lauderdale into northern Palm Beach County.
